BBC Film A Week with Marilyn is soon to hit cinema screens starring American actress Michelle Williams as the lead role of movie legend Marilyn Monroe.
The film focuses on a week the late movie star spends in London, 1956, shooting The Prince and the Showgirl, revealing the disagreements and relationships created along the way. There have been excellent reviews regarding Michelle's performance, however I believe her visual fit of Marilyn Monroe is not quite right.
Although the bleached flouncy, bob and cheeky glances resemble that of the showstopping actress, that's exactly what Michelle seem to be missing - the showstopping factor. The untouchable sexiness and desirability of Marilyn is absent through Michelle although she has clearly tried hard to evoke the same presence.
I'm sure Michelle will recreate the tender, vulnerable side of Marilyn behind the scenes convincingly, however so much of the legend of Marilyn surrounds the modern sassiness and unmatched beauty she embodied. The light playfulness in front of the camera and delicate voice.
The essence of Marilyn is missing from watching the trailer - however this is only a taster of the film offered, so once I have watched the film I may change my mind. There is no doubt that Michelle is a great actress, but I feel there are other actresses more suited for bringing the role of Marilyn as a famous star as well as real woman to life, reflecting her presence more successfully.
Are you happy with Michelle playing the role?
Here are Fl@unt's suggestions of who could play Marilyn:
Naomi Watts |
Charlize Theron |
Scarlett Johansson |
