Music Stars in Movies

So Rihanna is to star in her first movie Battleship set to hit UK cinemas in a couple of weeks and although she is only playing a small role, the movie is predicted to do well with Rihanna's name pushing recognition for the film. 

Will you be going to see this film next month?

I have yet to see what Rihanna's acting skills are like, but there have been other singers in the past I can judge as they have tried their hand in acting roles:

MARIAH CAREY in PRECIOUS (2010)

Mariah was unrecognisable in this role as a dowdy social worker. She played a small part but starred in one of the most poignant scenes in this heartbreaking film displaying real emotional connection.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE in ALPHA DOG (2006)

A complex character pulled off well by Justin which is impressive considering this as his first major movie role. 

He portrays the kindness and cruelness of a young man tied up in a web of threat and danger after getting involved with selling drugs.

ALICIA KEYS in SMOKIN' ACES (2006)

Alicia plays a heightened version of herself really - cool, calm and sassy - and she does it well. I actually forget I am watching Alicia the music superstar in this movie as she portrays the situation and backstory of Georgia Sykes convincingly. 

She's a tough assassin but with a soft side - the chemistry between her and Common is a sweet bonus.
