A massive congratulations to newcomer Lupita Nyong'o for winnning the Oscar last night for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Patsey in 12 Years A Slave.
I was in tears along with her as she gracefully and emotionally walked the stage to collect her well deserved award. She broke my heart playing Patsey, a tortured, fragile soul. What an outstanding achievement to win an Oscar for your first film!
There is so much promise in this Kenyan actress' future career and she has inspired so many people including myself, encouraging us to never give up working towards your dream as she said in her speech, "Wherever you come from your dreams are valid."
Well done to director of the movie, Steve McQueen, for also picking up an Oscar for Best Picture, the biggest award of the night. This movie is so important and beautifully, honestly made, I'm glad the Oscars recognized this.
Jared Leto also won for Best Supporting Actor for his effecting portrayal of Rayon, an Aids victim, in Dallas Buyers Club, and Matthew McConaughey managed to win Best Actor (before Leonardo Dicaprio!)
